First graders at Greenbrier Elementary participated in a mock election in November. Students in Mrs. Powell’s enrichment class wrote a persuasive essay stating reasons they would be good presidential candidates. Administration chose the top two papers to run as candidates in the election. Those students read their papers to the first grade student body. Students then engaged in the voting process as they completed ballots and submitted their votes. All first graders participated in a parade to announce the winner of the election. One student was elected President of first grade, while the second was elected Presidential Chief of Staff. All first graders had a great time and learned about the election process.
